Butch Decatoria
Butch Decatoria is a 33-year-old gay man (of course) residing in San Diego, having recently moved from Las Vegas. Being of a mixed race, Filipino and Irish, growing up in a Navy family with an alcoholic adoptive father and an old-world, over-protective Filipino mother, and not having known his biological father, Mr. Butch Decatoria (aka Poetic Fluffer @ Myspace) used poetry as a way of escape. Having begun to write poetry and short stories at the young age of 7, discovering other worlds in books of fantasy/sci-fi, PFluffer, found words to be like play-doh — pliable — and he willed them to his own liking.
Although English (in the beginning) was his second language, he ended up in Advanced Placement Literature classes in High School, absorbing all he could of words and their meanings. Nothing ever came of his pursuits, and he fathered two children by the age of 20. He then joined the Navy, following his adoptive father's footsteps, save for the affinity for drinking. Butch would write constantly over the years, even reading at cafes in Las Vegas, frequenting the college areas and absorbing the performance poetry scene in the 90's.
Still nothing came of his passion for poetry. Separating from his wife at 22, getting discharged from the military, and falling on hard times, he embraced the darker influences of raves and the nightlife of a young, newly out gay man. He would later blame Vegas itself, leaving it behind with children and other family members, and venturing to San Diego to start anew, promising himself to pursue his love of words and find a happiness he was aware he was lacking...
